Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and reminding others that they are loved. For the third consecutive year, Marzi’s Furry Friends is running its St. John’s Christmas Campaign, with the aim of ensuring that every child at St. John’s receives a special gift and experiences the joy of knowing that their community cares.

St. John’s currently provides care for 45 children who have been abandoned or orphaned. The non-profit organisation offers more than just a roof over their heads, providing residential accommodation, nutritious meals, medical treatment and emotional support. Education and the development of essential life skills are also important parts of its work, helping to create a safe and nurturing environment in which each child can grow and thrive.

Through the Christmas campaign, Marzi’s Furry Friends hopes to make the festive season a little brighter for every one of these children. The initiative is built on a simple but meaningful belief: every child deserves the excitement of receiving a Christmas present and the reassurance that they are valued and remembered.

Getting involved is easy. Two Christmas baubles representing each child hang on the Christmas tree at the Marzi’s Furry Friends shop at Greenstone Trading Post, 75 De Villiers Street, Shop 5. Each bauble carries a child’s name and gift wish list, allowing members of the public to choose a child and purchase the items they would love to receive.

Community members who would like to participate, or who have questions about the campaign, can contact Liezl de Jongh on WhatsApp.

Once the gifts have been purchased, they should be wrapped and returned to the shop by December 15, with the child’s bauble attached to the parcel. On December 24, the Marzi’s Furry Friends team will deliver the gifts to St. John’s, helping to ensure that every child has something special to open on Christmas Day.

A small gift can make a big difference, especially to a child who needs to know that someone cares. By choosing a bauble and fulfilling a Christmas wishlist, Barberton residents have an opportunity to share a little kindness and help make Christmas memorable for the children of St. John’s.
