Barberton Nursery School once again proved that imagination has no limits when its young learners took to the stage for their annual concert, Around the World in 60 Minutes, held at the Barberton High School hall on Saturday.

With boarding passes in hand, excited parents and family members joined the “passengers” of BNS Airways on a fun-filled journey across the globe, all from the comfort of their seats.

Principal Monique Heunis warmly welcomed everyone on board before introducing the “pilots” and “air hostesses” who would guide the audience through an unforgettable adventure spanning continents and cultures.

The stage was alight with beautiful costumes and décor.
“What a journey we had today! Our little passengers boarded BNS Airways and, together with their families, set off on a whirlwind adventure ‘Around the World in 60 Minutes,’” Heunis said. “From the moment the plane took off, the audience joined our young explorers as we danced, sang, and celebrated the wonders of different countries.”

The concert took the audience on an exhilarating trip with stops in China, Madagascar, the United Kingdom, the USA, Mexico, Egypt, Scotland, Jamaica, South Africa, and Hawaii. Each performance showcased colourful costumes, music, and dance styles representing the unique spirit of every destination.

One of the highlights was a surprise visit by the South African Stevenson Hamilton Pipe Band, who made a spectacular entrance during the “Scotland” leg of the journey. The stirring sound of bagpipes had the audience clapping and tapping along, bringing an authentic touch to the evening’s theme.

From there, the mood shifted to the sunny rhythms of Jamaica, complete with island vibes and a lively smoke machine that brought some tropical flair to the Barberton stage. Laughter filled the air when the teachers delivered their own hilarious performance, a Sumo wrestler dance that had the audience roaring with delight.

“There were plenty of surprises along the way, but as our journey came to an end, we were reminded that no matter how far you travel, there’s truly no place like home, South Africa.”

The concert also featured photo booths where families captured the magic of the evening, creating keepsakes from a night filled with music, song and laughter.

From the youngest performers to the dedicated teachers and proud parents, the evening reflected Barberton Nursery School’s commitment to nurturing creativity and confidence through learning and play.

What a way to wrap up the year, with imagination soaring high and a message that adventure begins right here at home.
