Barberton’s sporting spirit was on full display last weekend when the Barberton Bowling Club hosted its eagerly anticipated Triple Crown Tournament on October, 25 and 26. The event, which has quickly become a highlight on the local bowling calendar, brought together familiar faces and visiting players for two days of competitive yet friendly action on the greens.

According to the organisers, play began early each morning, with the first draw taking place at eight o’clock and matches starting shortly thereafter. Under bright blue skies and intense Barberton heat, bowlers showcased both precision and endurance, determined to make every shot count.

The participants clearly enjoyed themselves.

Despite the sweltering weather, the event ran smoothly, and spirits remained high throughout the weekend. Club representative Anne-Marie van der Ham commented that "it was a very hot weekend, but everyone pulled through and thoroughly enjoyed themselves." She expressed heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who made the tournament possible, noting that the Barberton Bowling Club is deeply appreciative of their continued support.

The atmosphere over the two days reflected exactly what local sport in Barberton is all about, camaraderie, teamwork and a shared love for the game. Between matches, players and spectators gathered under the shade of the clubhouse verandah, enjoying refreshments, laughter and the sound of friendly banter that has long defined the Barberton Bowling Club’s character.

The club continues to serve as one of the community’s most welcoming sporting venues, offering a space where players of all ages and skill levels can come together. The success of this year’s Triple Crown Tournament once again highlighted Barberton’s deep-rooted passion for bowls and the strong sense of fellowship that keeps members returning to the greens year after year.
